Lord of Ultima Tools Part 5: Other Extensions and Scripts

I was going to make this post about TDK (One Defiant) Extension, but I realised that the official TDK extension page has a pretty nice description of all its features, including screenshots, and I would just be duplicating their efforts.

So I'll cover a couple of the smaller scripts instead.

LoU Extensions

Many of the LoU scripts are no longer maintained and therefore have been broken by subsequent patches. To get them to work, disable or uninstall LoU BoS, and instead install LoU Extensions. This will replace the functionality of BoS (see Part 2 and Part 3 for instructions) and also make some of the older scripts work. Unfortunately, there are still many scripts out there that are still broken even with LoU Extensions installed.

LoU Suite

LoU Suite is primarily an aid for raiding bosses and dungeons. The original is by Tobias Hansen, but the version that currently works is by 76 (and this requires the LoU Extensions script linked above to also be installed).

The screenshots below are from the original version; the working version does not have an Attack Monitor tab.

Sometimes the script takes a while to load, but eventually it will add a S button near the O button that Tweak adds.

Clicking on the S button brings up the raiding screen.

The Boss Raider and Dungeon Raider tabs are almost identical. As the name suggests, the first tab helps you raid bosses and the second tab helps you raid dungeons.

In the first drop down menu, select the continent you are interested in raiding on. In the second drop down menu, select the minimum level dungeon that you are interested in (I'd suggest starting with Level 1 selected; if the results list is unmanageable then try a higher level). Then click on View Region to switch to region view and Scan to populate the list (Recount Troops will update your cities' troop numbers if you recruit more, lose some in an attack, or send some in or out of the city).

It will then give you a table of possible targets. Type will give you the type of boss (e.g., Dragon) or dungeon (e.g. Forest), L is the level of the boss/dungeon, Pos is the position of the boss/dungeon. Name is the name of a city you could attack from (if you can attack the same boss/dungeon from multiple cities, each will have its own entry in the table). Distance is the number of squares between the city and the boss/dungeon.

Units is the number and type of troops the script suggests you send. The script only allows certain troop types to attack certain dungeon types. If there are multiple troop types in the city, the script may have a separate row for each type, or it may combine different types into a single attack. Under the Actions column there is a button Send, which will send the listed troops to attack the dungeon.

My main complaint about this script is there is no way to change the troop types and counts without modifying the script itself. It's also somewhat restrictive with its troop types and it doesn't allow certain popular mixes (e.g., rangers plus guardians).

Nessus River Guardian

Nessus River Guardian is another raiding helper that I personally prefer. This adds a NRG button to the bottom of the screen.

Clicking on the NRG button brings up an options screen.

You will need to update the Attack Power values to your actual values (as these are affected by research and shrines). You can find these values by mousing over the picture of each unit (in various places including the Recruitment screen, Commands screen, etc.)

I also find that the loot numbers are a little on the low side, but unlike LoU Suite, NRG allows you to modify these (at least for dungeons -- I wish they could be modified for bosses as well). Increasing the loot numbers a little will make sure your troops are able to take home all the loot, and also mean you don't need to re-do the raid as often as the percentage complete increases.

Once you've set everything up in Options, you're ready to raid dungeons and bosses. Just right-click on a dungeon or boss to get this menu.

For bosses you will only get one attack option - "Raid boss". For dungeons there are three choices:

  • "Raid Max" - send as many raids as possible, each with the number of troops NRG thinks is necessary
  • "Raid 1" - send one raid, with the number of troops NRG thinks is necessary
  • "Raid all" - send one raid, with all available troops
There are other shortcuts in the right-click menu, depending on what you click on. These are generally fairly self explanatory.

The Options window also has a second tab, "Attack", which helps you run attacks on other players by choosing appropriate numbers for fakes and real attacks. Enter the coordinates for the real attack and fake attacks, the time you want the attacks to arrive and then choose either Assault or Siege. I haven't used this functionality myself, but I would assume you need the War Minister for this to work.

I think that covers most of the main scripts that are currently in use. Next time I'll look at some of the external city planners.

  2. LoU is being resurrected - Gaming Addict Studios, a group of developers and strategy gamers from around the world have come together to create a unique strategy MMO called Crown of the Gods™.

Crown of the Gods is past alpha testing and development is almost done, the current kickstarter has already met goal (to pay for the final artwork) and will go to beta in January 2015. The website, forums and chat are active.

If you look at it you will recognize a lot of things, only this is being developed by actual gamers who loved Lord of Ultima, so there will be improvements that EA never would add.

Pass the word to all the ex-players you know. We need to get the word out.
